About Amanda

I’m a still life painter based on the Isle of Wight, working from my home studio, a converted garden garage. I create small oil paintings inspired by food, seasonal produce, flowers and familiar kitchen items.

I studied Fine Art at Winchester School of Art and Chichester University before working as a commercial artist and illustrator, with my work widely printed and published. After having my two children, I returned to fine art and gradually rediscovered how much I enjoyed working from life and the quiet focus it brings.

I live in a rural coastal village, surrounded by countryside and close to the sea. My husband is a chef, so food, seasonal produce and the everyday rituals of the kitchen are an important part of our family life and are at the heart of my paintings.

My work is rooted in the tradition of still life, but approached in a contemporary and relaxed way. I paint directly from life, working wet-on-wet and paying close attention to the way light falls across objects, subtle changes in colour and the relationship between light and shadow.

I’m interested in balancing careful observation with fresh, expressive brushwork, creating paintings that feel both familiar and quietly special.
